About Messrs S.K. Song
A criminal defence and litigation firm serving Johor Bahru since 1980. Five offices. One relentless commitment to our clients.
Four Decades of Courtroom Advocacy
Messrs S.K. Song opened its doors in 1980, founded by Mr Song Sing Kwee with a straightforward purpose: to give the people of Johor Bahru access to determined, competent legal representation. From a single office in Taman Pelangi, the firm has grown to five branches across the JB metropolitan area, yet the original ethos remains unchanged. Every client deserves a vigorous defence and clear-eyed counsel.
Mr Song built the practice around criminal litigation at a time when few firms in Johor made it their centrepiece. That decision shaped the firm's identity. Over the years, Messrs S.K. Song has represented accused persons in the Sessions Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal on matters ranging from drug offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 to white-collar prosecutions under the Penal Code and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
Leadership and Team
Mr Goh Ting Sin, as partner, together with Mr Song leads a team of dedicated legal counsel. Mr Chia Kwok Wei, called to the Bar in 2010, has spent his entire career with the firm. Mr Lim Kim Siong brings years of hands-on experience in probate, family law, and conveyancing. Mr Muhammad Valantino, a University of Malaya graduate called to the Bar in 2016, adds depth to the firm's criminal defence and litigation bench.

Criminal Defence and Litigation Focus
While the firm maintains a broad general practice, its reputation rests on criminal defence and civil litigation. The lawyers at Messrs S.K. Song appear regularly in the Johor Bahru Courts Complex, handling bail applications, trial advocacy, sentencing mitigation, and appeals. On the civil side, the firm acts for plaintiffs and defendants in contractual disputes, land matters, and employment claims.
Behind every case file is thorough preparation. The firm maintains an in-house law library stocked with current and archived volumes of the Current Law Journal (CLJ) and Malayan Law Journal (MLJ), ensuring that counsel can research points of law efficiently and cite the latest judicial decisions. This resource, combined with decades of accumulated institutional knowledge, gives the team an edge when constructing arguments and anticipating opposing counsel's positions.
"Being able to use moral principles does not mean that one is virtuous."
